Complete Proof of Service of Petition and Summons

Service (delivery) of court documents to the other party or parties in your case is required for most documents you submit for the court's consideration.

Service of court documents must be completed by an adult who is not a party to the case. In other words, you cannot serve paperwork in your own case; it has to be done by an adult other than yourself.

Personal service is usually required when serving a petition and summons. 

Service of a party located outside the United States can involve additional rules and restrictions.
